RAK: Monday

August 25, 2008

I’m going to be doing RAK every other week for now. Things are crazy busy for me, and I run out of time.

I’m also going to be announcing each week our new RAKer’s. If you come across the button, but don’t see the blog on our list, let me know.

Our newest RAKer is at Sex Diaries of a Mom. Great, funny reading (and, it’s not porn, promise!).

So last week, for our RAK, we did cards. Please share who you sent to!

This week, we’re trying something a bit different.

It’s called a “Kindness Jar”. Basically, you put money (your choice, could be dollars, or pennies, doesn’t matter) in the jar everytime you’re not as kind as you’d like to be. This is different for everyone, so I’m not going to expand further. You choose what you consider an infraction. When the jar gets full, donate it to your favorite charity! This is going to be ongoing, but I’d love to hear from you how it’s working out and your choice of charity.

I wanted Extreme Makeover, Home Edition last night. I rarely watch it these days, because it makes me cry! But, after hearing this family’s story, I was riveted (and bawling!). The couple was everything I wish I could be. They moved to a town in New Mexico, with one of the highest murder rates, intent to change it. They have. Since being there, crime has dropped over 50%. They have a ministry, and home for people that need it. I was so moved by them, and so inspired. What would the world be like with more families like the Martinez family? I’d wager it would be a beautiful place. That’s the kind of world I’d love to live in.

I’ll end with this quote, that I wish everyone would live by:

Be the change you want to see.

Go forth and be kind.

Gosh, I’ll have to do pennies or I’ll go broke! If I don’t count all the moments of mommy guilt, I may get through this while still being able to buy groceries, maybe.
